Pagpanao Ng Kanak Pinangga
(The Departure of My Beloved)
"I could have written hundreds of pages to express my sorrow, but nothing was more liberating than expressing it in music. How I wish individual life ended like a song to be lived and sang all over again."
~ Danny Castillones Sillada, Inusara Journal
Pagpanao Ng Kanak Pinangga (The Departure of My Beloved) is a dawot song (about love, life and death) written, composed and performed by Danny Castillones Sillada, accompanied by one of the leading Filipino acoustic guitarists Noli Aurillo.
The song was first performed during the opening of his one-man show at The Podium in 2007, Mandaluyong City, Philippines. Ironically, a year later, he sang the same song at his mother's interment on December 15, 2008. One month later, he would sing the same song at his brother's funeral (February 5, 2009), who died from a vehicular accident. His stepfather died in December 23, 2007 followed by his mother in 2008. His biological father died in 1972 when he was still nine years old. His other two younger siblings died ahead of their time from tragic deaths in 1987 and 1993 respectively. He is the last one left to bear and cherish the sad and beautiful memories of his departed loved ones.

THE DEPARTURE OF MY BELOVED
If only death were like an ocean
I would traverse its turbulent waves
Just to bring you back, my beloved.
But since it is death
I’ll just let my tears flow away…
If only death were like a river
I would cross its raging current
Just to bring you back, my beloved.
But since it is death
I’ll just let my tears flow away…
If only death were like a mountain
I would climb its highest scale
Just to bring you back, my beloved.
But since it is death
I’ll just let my tears flow away…
If only I could offer my life
I would do anything
Just to bring you back, my beloved.
But since it is death
I’ll just let my tears flow away…
